5 Common CCTV Installation Mistakes
Wrong height, blind spots, weak passwords — typical mistakes and how to avoid them.
Over the years we've seen the same mistakes on hundreds of sites. Here are the five most common:
1. Camera mounted too high
"Higher sees more" is a common misconception. A camera at 4-5 meters films the top of heads, making face recognition impossible. The optimal height at entrances is 2.2-2.8 meters.
2. Ignored blind spots
Camera layout should be planned on paper considering viewing angles. The back entrance, basement and parking are forgotten most often.
3. Factory passwords
An internet-connected recorder with a default password is an open door. Strong passwords and firmware updates are a must.
4. Never checking recordings
A system may "record" to a full or dead disk for months. Periodic checks are needed — or a service contract where we do it for you.
5. Saving on cable
Cheap cable brings noise, signal loss and even fire risk. Outdoors — only UV-resistant, protected wiring.
Professional installation avoids all these problems from day one.
